Last Day of Sand

We slept in banana leaves
below the moon
on that side of the sun
behind the mountain
over there
by the avocado and the starfruit tree.

The greenest green I’ve ever seen.

A few miles from the Blue Room –
this island’s womb.

The waters carry us where they want to go.

For seventeen nights, we forgot about

smoke and buildings
blocking stars

The birds cannot hear
everyone wants more.

holding out its watch
rushing us to places we don’t want to be.

Here, time tastes good and is kind.

I will miss everything the most.
